Black Knight is a powerful utility character that can also act as both a strong attacker and reasonable aggro tank. Her ability to take advantage of Enmity in Dark is a great boon for her damage provided that you have a way to activate it. Even if you don’t, she'll still pull aggro for your team while providing a plethora of strong utilities.
Strong Enmity attacker
Black Knight can act as a great attacker due to her powerful EMPs and passive, Sword of Despair, which allows her to deal high damage at low HP when supported by her 4 EMP Critical Hit Nodes.
Black Knight is one of the few characters that provides Petrify, a debuff that prevents enemies from gaining charge diamonds. This comes with a high accuracy, making her a consistent source of this debuff. Beyond this, she also has the ability to provide both Dispel and Delay.
Due to her Sword of Despair and Black Armor passives, Black Knight can redirect aggro to herself while becoming tankier as her HP drops. This can prove useful in an element defined by Enmity, as survival at low HP can easily be a nontrivial task.
Good Atma Proficiency
Black Knight’s compatibility with Atma Sword is especially notable for her as an Enmity and Garrison based character, particularly in an element where a sword proficient Summer Zoey acts as a pillar for most teams. The fact that this grants her multiattack with its Strife Key is even more notable, as one of the more multi starved attackers of Dark.
No active self-buffs for damage
Unlike other Dark attackers, Black Knight does not have any skills that provide self-buffs, and her passive buffs are not enough to keep up with the top attackers of Dark that have their own strong active buffs.
No source of multiattack
There is no source of multiattack in Black Knight’s kit, meaning she must rely on multiattack buffs from other sources in the grid compared to attackers that are more self-sufficient in Dark.
Black Knight, also known as Apollonia, is a strong independent unit worthy of her title as a Luminary Knight. In her quest to restore her best friend to her original self, she has become a fierce warrior who would be a great addition to many teams. On top of having exceptional utility, she can be a powerful attacker that has fairly high survivability, capable of acting as the tank for the team. She is both strong during the early and late game, thanks to her debuffs and Enmity synergy respectively.
The strong debuffs that Black Knight brings to the table allows her to significantly improve team survival. Her primary utility is found in her Acumen skill, which applies Petrify with a high accuracy. Petrify helps prevent enemy special attacks by freezing their charge diamonds, which enables Black Knight and her team to easily maintain their HP levels while taking advantage of Enmity. This is significant for Black Knight due to her passive, Black Armor, that scales the lower her HP. Her Delay on her AoE nuke, Quadspell, helps in the same way by trying to prevent special attacks from wiping a low HP team. Quadspell also has extra utility in providing a Dispel to remove a foe’s buff. This makes her one of the few Dark units who can provide this utility and the best attacker that can do so.
The remaining skill, Drain, focuses on sustain, supplementing her passives that allow her to act as a tank. Her Sword of Despair passive provides her with a Garrison effect, increasing her defense the lower her HP, while Black Armor grants Black Knight 10% HP, 20% defense, and Hostility up. This combined with the aforementioned heal allows Apollonia to float her HP at high enough levels to comfortably tank hits for the team while maintaining Enmity.
As an attacker, Black Knight primarily relies on the exceedingly well scaling passive Enmity on her Sword of Despair. Though this alone is already strong when levied correctly, it’s still not enough to make her a good attacker alone. The last stretch is often compensated with her exceedingly strong EMP nodes that include four sources of critical attack.
Black Knight’s value lies in her ability to provide utility without giving up too much damage compared to some of the top Dark attackers. These utilities are exceedingly powerful early game and a strong asset for newer players. Though this matters less as you progress through the game, the fact that she scales well as an Enmity attacker means that she is still strong late game with Dark’s Enmity based grids. Black Knight is a versatile character who’s greatly justified because of her synergy with Dark in general.
Characters and Grid Options
Characters who don’t want to get hit
- Narmaya and Marquiares are characters that appreciate Black Knight’s ability to aggro tank due to their feeble characteristics.
- Olivia has weak defenses that can benefit from Black Knight’s ability to draw aggro. Furthermore, her ability to stack delays with Black Knight means that it will be easier to control enemy special attacks. Her Twilight Terror debuff will even help prevent triggers that Black Knight’s Petrify cannot deal with.
- Seox 4* taking less aggro means that it becomes easier for him to maintain his stacks so that he can start dealing significant damage.
Black Knight heavily enjoys the presence of Enmity enablers. Zooey, in particular, allows Black Knight to act as a strong attacker and defender from turn one with Conjunction. In return, Black Knight’s ability to tank and maintain her own HP provides the team with greater survivability after the one turn invulnerability from Zooey’s Conjunction wears off. Black Knight's utilities also help in keeping the team alive after their HP is already lowered by preventing dangerous special attacks with Acumen.
- Multiattack Weapons are great choices due to Black Knight’s lack of multiattack. Trium skill weapons such as (Olden) Cortana and Cerberus Order help Black Knight function as a competitive attacker.
- Enmity Weapons are synergistic with Black Knight as her passive, Black Armor ,relies on being at low HP to be effective and Enmity weapons get stronger when trying to capitalize on this passive. Examples common choices are Celeste Claw Omega and Gisla.
Atma Sword Synergy
Black Knight has wonderful synergy in an Atma Sword Team, with the Trium key being a very useful source of multiattack. Furthermore, she synergizes well with other characters that carry sword proficiency like Zooey or Olivia. She may not deal the same damage as the top Dark sword proficient attackers, but she deals enough to replace them if there is a need for survivability to the team.
Atma Gun Synergy
While usable in Dark teams, Atma Gun is at best a niche composition. Out of the two other characters that share the proficiency, one of them doesn’t even need Trium from Atma Gun’s common Strife Key, and while Joker does work decently with Black Knight, he cannot justify running the team for. This is especially the case when looking at Black Knight’s sword proficiency and her synergy with Dark sword teams.
|Critical Hit ★★★||Critical Hit ★★★||Critical Hit ★★★|
|Critical Hit ★★★||Debuff Success ★☆☆||Support Skill ★☆☆|
The numerous Critical Hit nodes are of utmost priority in boosting her damage to a significant level. Debuff Success helps with her landing her utility, though it isn't considered high priority compared to other characters with strong debuffs due to her naturally high success rates.
Ring Bonus Suggestions
|1st roll||2nd roll|
|Debuff Success||Triple Attack|
|C.A. DMG Cap||Double Attack|
Debuff success is important to further improve Black Knight’s chances to land her debuffs. C.A. DMG cap can be useful if one finds Black Knight easily capping C.A. with her Enmity passive, otherwise further sources of damage are good alternatives. As an attacker without natural multiattack, DA and TA rolls are of high priority.
