The Ancient Dragon turned Erune, Scathacha, is perhaps one of the best non limited unit Wind has to offer. Despite being an attacker, Scathacha’s kit is anything but selfish, providing important buffs and utility to her team, but her offense power remains very high nonetheless. This “Attacker with utility” role is what makes Scathacha shine and makes her a must-have unit for nearly any Wind Party.
Great team support
With a permanent Wind ATK buff, a clarity, a shield on demand to any target, and the ability to grant the team a team echo whenever they are shield, Scathacha’s kit is jammed pack with both offensive and defensive utility that will greatly serve the team.
Powerful and spammable nuke
Scathacha’s nuke has the potential to become one of the strongest available in Wind if her HP gets low enough (which is easily achieved). Thanks to her C.A effect, Scathacha will be able to reuse her second skill Nuke after every charge attack, making her an extremely powerful nuker.
Can self trigger Enmity
Thanks to both her third skill which will consume her own HP, and her second skill granting her a Jammed buff, Scathacha is able to have extremely high auto attack damage if used with sufficiently skill leveled Tiamat Bolts.
Great innate stats
Scathacha’s great EMP set combined with her passive granting her additional offensive stats whenever under the effect of a Wind ATK up buff grant her some great base damage even before applying any external buff.
Synergy issues for Bahamut and Atma weapons
Due to the prevalence of Niyon in Wind teams and a lack of other great Erune characters, Bahamut synergy can become an issue due to having too much race diversity in a party, or in the best case scenario requiring to use a Bahamut Staff. Likewise, Scathacha’s Fist proficiency is not shared by many other wind characters, often forcing her to miss on an Atma bonus.
Scathacha has always been a valuable Wind character, mostly thanks to her ability to reduce her own HP for easier Enmity activation. Her 5* uncap not only saves her from imminent powercreep issues, but propels her once again to become a top choice in Wind teams by solving most of the issues her 4* version used to have.
Scathacha’s first skill is Deirdre's Aura, which will clear one debuff from all allies on use, and provide a 30% Wind ATK up buff to the team for 5 turns. The 5 turns cooldown makes this skill amazing as it pretty much grants a permanent Wind ATK buff to the team. The clarity is of course extremely appreciated as well against nasty debuffs that an enemy might throw at the team. It’s worth noting that this Wind ATK buff does not stack with Petra’s buff, but should in return stack with nearly anything else (Summer Jeanne C.A effect, Ultima C.A effect, Elysian’s first skill, etc…).
Power Seeker is Scathacha’s second skill, a powerful nuke that scales with how low Scathacha HP gets. While the strength of the nuke at full HP is fairly weak, the multiplier increases as Scath’s HP diminishes, for a maximum of 900% multiplier, while the damage itself will cap at around 730,000. The cooldown of 7 turns would have made this skill rather lackluster if not for her C.A effect, instantly resetting the cooldown of Power Seeker and increasing both the multiplier and the cap of the nuke (for a 1,460,000 damage cap after her C.A). Finally, as if it wasn’t already enough, Power Seeker will grant to Scathacha a 3 turns Jammed buff, a special mod ATK up multiplier starting at ~25-30% at full HP, and increasing in value linearly as her HP decreases. This makes for a very important source of damage, provided that Scathacha HP gets low enough.
Fortunately, Scathacha’s kit allows her to reduce her own HP thanks to her third skill, Dragon's Heart: it will consume 25% of Scathacha max HP and cast an equivalent shield at the targeted character (she can target herself if needed), the shield will max out at 5,000 HP and reaching it requires Scathacha to have at least 20,000 HP. The skill is helpful to protect vulnerable targets or characters who revolve on not getting hit, but the more important part is the fact that it will lower our Dragon’s HP in order to empower her Power Seeker skill, as well as trigger any grid Enmity weapon the player might have. The short 2 turns cooldown assures the player that she’ll get in a good Enmity spot early into the fight as well.
Scathacha’s first passive is a Seraphic effect, granting her increased damage and cap when fighting against Earth. While valuable for new players, this passive quickly loses its importance once the player acquires the Raphael Bow. Her second passive is the more important one, as it will buff both Scathacha and the team if specific conditions are met. First, Scathacha will get a 30% normal ATK up / 30% DA / 10% TA bonus whenever under the effect of a Wind ATK up buff, which is pretty much all the time due to her first skill (unless dispelled). The second bonus is a 10% echo buff to any teammate having a shield effect active from any source. The bonus stats Scathacha get through that passive are helpful and can allow the player to forego a possible Bahamut / Atma synergy with her without her suffering too much from it. The team echo buff is also quite relevant with summons such as Grimnir which casts a powerful shield on the team for 3 turns, but can also be activated through her third skill which casts an indefinite shield on the target of her choice.
There’s very little to complain about Scathacha, as she is a character with good team utility but first and foremost great offensive performances, which should remain as long as Enmity stays relevant in Wind teams.
In the Early Game, her powerful nuke and shield make her a great pick to burst down enemies and protect vulnerable allies.
During the Mid Game, her ability to lower her own HP to easily proc the Enmity of Tiamat Bolts make her a powerhouse able to cap her auto attacks even with unfinished Wind grids.
In the End Game, Scathacha’s utility sets her apart from other more selfish attackers, as both her Wind ATK up and Echo on shield become valuable, and her Clarity offers more flexibility for MC skill choice.
Characters and Grid Options
Charge bar boosting characters
Seofon is a great fit with Scathacha, thanks to his ability to trigger a team Ignition with his Swordshine stacks: this allows Scathacha to reset her Power Seeker nuke several times in a row. The shield provided by Scathacha is also helpful to protect Seofon from getting hit and thus losing his stacks.
Meteon, Arriet and Tiamat are all able to provide additional charge bar generation buff to the team, making Scathacha C.A at a higher rate to benefit from the damage and the Jammed buff of Power Seeker more often.
Shield providing characters
Niyon 5* is one of the best buffer to pair with Scathacha, not only is the DA/TA necessary for the Ancient Dragon in order to increase her DPS, but the shield Nio provides will also grant to the whole team a 10% echo for its duration (note that Niyon herself will not get additional echo due to her passive already granting her Echo on her third skill).
Andira will also be helpful to Scathacha in a similar fashion, providing her DA/TA through her special buffs, and being able to give a shield to the ally targeted and thus proc the additional Echo passive of Scathacha.
Gawain is also able to grant a team shield on his C.A, albeit a rather weak one (500 HP). It can still be useful to activate the echo if the boss is incapacitated, especially since his shield is indefinite.
Single target Heals
Summer Jeanne with her single target Heal is able to sustain Scathacha’s HP consumption, which can be handy if the Dragon’s third skill is mostly used in order to negate damage and grant protection to her teammates, or simply make Scathacha fight more safely thanks to the Guard buff attached to the heal.
Lecia will have a similar interaction with Scathacha, as she is able to heal and remove one debuff from a single target on a short cooldown (the clear is handy of Scathacha is not able to cast her own Clarity). But Lecia will additionally benefit from Scathacha nuke spamming in order to build up her ATK orders.
Grid weapons / summons
Cap up boosts and more particularly Skill cap up are extremely important to use with Scathacha, due to her extremely high damage potential which will easily reach the damage cap, whether it is for her nuke or her auto-attacks. Weapons such as Qinglong Spear Malus, Ultima skill cap up, but also summons effect like Raphael will all increase Scathacha’s max damage potential.
Enmity weapons are a must have for Scathacha as she is able to very easily lower her HP. The presence of multiple Tiamat Bolts uncapped can even allow her to cap against high defense / off element content.
Double Tiamat grids involving Grimnir Harps also have a great synergy despite the Harps having a stamina skill, as Scathacha can provide a permanent 30% Wind ATK up team buff, and elemental buffs are precious in double Magna / Primal setups.
The Justice Arcarum summon can be used in order to lower the team's HP by averaging it, thanks to Scathacha's short cooldown self-HP removal. This allows the whole team to benefit from Enmity instead of only Scathacha.
Primarch Passive Team
Thanks to having several characters share the same increased damage and cap against earth enemies passive, it is possible to assemble a team with every character other than the MC having such a passive and forego using Rapahel’s Bow for another weapon (such as another Bolt / Xeno / Ultima / Qinglong Spear). Such teams will generally consist of MC / Seofon 5* / Scathacha / Niyon 5*, who also have the added advantage of having great synergy with Scathacha. This setup basically sacrifices the Primarch skill effect on the MC, and compensates with another grid weapon that will increase the damage of the three other characters in exchange.
|Skill DMG cap ★★★||Enmity ★★★||Critical Hit ★★★|
|TA ★★☆||DA ★★☆||DA ★★☆|
|Wind ATK ★★☆||ATK ★☆☆||ATK ★☆☆|
Scathacha is one of those few characters that has excellent EMP, where 18 points is not enough to take every relevant node. The proposed repartition is 100% offensive, but it can be a valid option to sacrifice the Crit node or DA nodes for more HP. Scathacha’s support skill is not really needed as she doesn’t have a higher aggro or innate lowered DEF that would justify it.
Ring Bonus Suggestions
|1st Roll||2nd Roll|
|Skill DMG Cap||Triple Attack|
|C.A DMG Cap||Double Attack|
Skill cap and TA are the two most important bonus that will improve Scathacha’s damage potential, although C.A DMG cap should achieve a quite similar effect to the skill cap bonus. Trying to get a high HP roll is also recommended for higher HP shields and safer enmity management.
