Vajra is a character with a varied kit that can debuff enemies, buff allies, and provide strong burst attacks. While tools in her kit may be notably strong, she lacks internal synergy and can be clunky to use. Her strong debuffs may be useful for newer players, but she will often be lackluster until you can utilize other synergistic characters to make full use of her abilities, allowing her to become a powerful force that few others can match.
Has a team buff for offense and defense.
Vajra gives the team a special buff, Loyalty Eternal, upon each time she C.A.s. This works as a stacking buff that provides an additional benefit for each stack. With a long duration of 6 turns and her passive charge gain, Varja can easily stack and maintain Loyalty Eternal without having to worry about it falling off.
Vajra is one of the few characters that can provide Petrify, a debuff that prevents enemies from gaining charge diamonds. She can also provide Debuff Resistance Down on the enemy, allowing her to land Petrify more reliably. This also helps with landing any other debuffs your team may have.
Good burst damage when supported
Vajra can gain a large boost in her offensive ability when under the effect of her Hound of the Hunt skill. This gives Double Strike, which scales well with buffs that she can’t provide to herself, like Diantha’s guaranteed TA. She can also deal high amounts of damage with her charge attacks thanks to the higher charge attack multiplier Zodiac characters have, in addition to her ability to charge attack twice in standard samurai fashion. This is also supplemented by her passive to deal this burst damage more often.
Long ramp up
Vajra often takes a long time before she can fully stack her Loyalty Eternal buff, which requires five C.As. to finish, even lacking the tools to help reach her first charge attack. This often means that she is undesirable in short fights when compared to other buffers who provide their buffs immediately.
Lack of direction for her kit
Vajra’s kit attempts to do many different things without proper synergy between parts of her kit. This is due to Vajra’s kit being segmented into strong niches that do nothing for each other. When you want to bring Vajra for one of her unique aspects without considering synergy, you will often find other characters that can do the job better even if it isn't in the same way.
Requires support to be effective
Most people using Vajra will find her lackluster as a character unless provided with enough support to make her shine. Fitting together the perfect characters and/or reaching End Game grids are very important to make sure this dog has her day.
The Zodiac of the Dog isn’t alone when she starts her training excursion with the crew, as she brings her buddy Garjana and the many pups that decided to tag along as well. The teamwork between her and Garjana mirrors the teamwork Vajra wants to have with her teammates to be able to maximize her full potential. As long as certain conditions are met, she has the potential to be a strong addition to water compositions, since many aspects of her kit are rare to find amongst other characters.
Her first skill, Okami, is a weak 440,000 damage nuke that provides Debuff Resist Down (Stackable). This, unfortunately, provides little utility even if it helps land strong debuffs like the one found in her second skill. Vajra and Garjana’s Canid Growl meanwhile intimidates the enemy, causing them to stop gaining charge diamonds for the duration of the Petrify it instills.
Vajra’s Hound of the Hunt calls Garjana to help support her attacks, granting the ability to do two attack actions in a single turn with Double Strike and a 350,000 damage nuke after each of those actions with Summon Garjana. This skill has a low uptime of 2/9 and cannot be properly utilized without external support from both multiattack and damage buffs. If properly utilized, this skill can scale amazingly with the buffs provided to Vajra as a second attack action can circumvent many limitations normal buffs have. Even without that, it still does amazingly as a nuking skill, as the skill damage can easily culminate to a total of 1,400,000 after the two turn cycle.
The Queen of Canines, Vajra has as a passive that grants her the ability to build up her charge bar to an increased maximum of 200% and the ability to double C.A. with it. This can contribute to a significant burst of damage if one can properly build up enough bar on Vajra, despite how difficult it may be without well-aligned support taking advantage of her Double Strike and her Loyalty Eternal passive that grants a charge boost based on team Chain Bursts. This can prove useful for 1 turn bursts of damage, allowing for her to waste less charge bar from being stuck at the 100% cap.
Vajra's can provide to the team with her Loyalty Eternal, a unique buff that is granted from her C.A., that shares the same name as her passive. Loyalty Eternal adds an additional effect every time Vajra performs a C.A., successively granting 30% ATK Up, 30% DEF Up, 10% Charge Bar Gain up, 30% Charge Attack Damage up, and finally 10% Damage Cap up. This has a long duration of 6 turns, allowing for easy upkeep of this buff assuming she C.A. often enough. Thankfully, it isn’t difficult as Vajra makes each C.A. after the first easier, due to her charge gain from chain bursts. This plethora of buffs may be varied in usage, but the fact that the ATK Up portion comes first helps to make it an impactful boost from the onset. As a bonus, this buff is also undispellable, an important feature in fights with enemy dispels.
Overall, Vajra provides many unique skills with effects that are hard to find. However, due to the lack of consistent synergy within her own kit, she must often seek outside support that compliments her skills and unlocks her potential. Her first two skills provide great support for encounters that require Petrify, which can prove to be enough to make her amazing for Early Game regardless of her support. If the rest of Vajra’s team can provide her the means to constantly charge attack, she becomes a strong team buffer with consistent charge gain. With enough multiattack and attack from her allies, she becomes a potent burst attacker with her Hound of the Hunt. This Divine General may not fit into all team compositions Mid and Late Game, but she can be absurdly strong in those where she can find her place. This can especially be seen with the advent of Europa Harps and Blue Spheres, which significantly boost both charge attack damage and cap.
Characters and Grid Options
Buffers that boost multiattack
- Diantha solves most of Vajra’s initial ramp-up problems by providing a turn of guaranteed TA at the start of the fight which, when combined with Vajra’s Double Strike buff, allows for her to reach a C.A. for the next immediate turn. Diantha also provides the multiattack support that Vajra’s kit lacks to help cover holes in her team support. The stackable C.A. damage buff from Diantha is also well utilized from Vajra’s tendency to C.A. often.
- 5* Feower works well with Vajra in his ability to provide team multiattack support that Vajra lacks. He also has the ability to take advantage of Vajra’s Debuff Resist Down with the slew of debuffs from his skills. A benefit unique to Feower can be found in his ability to extend Vajra’s powerful Hound of the Hunt buffs.
- Yuel bring support to help debuff enemies along with her multiattack buffs by granting a Debuff Success Up to help Vajra land her Petrify. Vajra helps in a similar manner to Yuel in applying Debuff Resist Down (Stackable) to help Yuel land her debuffs.
- Cucouroux brings strong multiattack support to a single character that can help Vajra with burst damage when her Double Strike buff is up. The Debuff Resist Down (Stackable) can in return, help Cucouroux out with landing her Inert over the span of an encounter.
Characters that can boost charge bars
- Summer Grea is a perfect fit in helping to support Vajra C.A. frequently and for high amounts of damage. Grea’s Linkage buff allows her to supply Vajra with a persistent 15% uplift letting her C.A. more frequently and more smoothly reaching 200% charge bar for a double C.A.. Being able to grant Dragonheart to Vajra also helps immensely by guaranteeing two turns of TA to go with her Double Strike strike buff. This not only helps with Vajra’s burst damage but can also act as a huge boost to Vajra’s charge bar and allow for a quick double C.A., even at the start of a fight. Even the boost to C.A. damage and cap help immensely as Vajra has a tendency to spend many turns using her C.A. due to the charge boost from her Loyalty Eternal passive.
- Altair can provide Vajra with a consistent source of charge bar with his 30% Charge Boost and improve her burst damage with the various damage buffs he provides. Vajra can also help Altair with landing his DEF Downs with her Debuff Resist Down (Stackable) debuff.
- Kengo is a class that synergizes well with Vajra, specifically when using Unsigned Kaneshige. They provide each other with ample charge bar through charge attacking frequently. This helps mitigate the long ramp time of Loyalty Eternal, which in turn helps both characters with the buffs it provides. This combination is very powerful and allows Vajra to rise from a subpar character to a top-tier one.
Characters that like to C.A.
Vajra’s kit helps support characters that want to C.A. more often with both her buffs and her tendency to supply charge bar with her own charge attacks. This fits with many characters in Water like Katalina and Altair who provide buffs when they charge attack or characters like Summer Izmir and Vane who can deal high damage charge attacks.
Vajra is a possible combo candidate for Silva’s A Shot in the Dark. This skill swaps her out for the next sub-member for 3 turns, giving that sub-member a buff that triggers skill damage upon attacking. This works well with Vajra’s Double Strike, as it is counted as two instances of attacking, which means that the 800,000 damage nuke will proc a second time under double strike.
C.A. DMG Cap Up Weapons
As Vajra has a tendency to C.A. often for higher damage than standard characters, she can benefit from weapons with C.A. cap up such as Tyros Zither and general cap up like Xuanwu Mace Malus. Her buffs also help other characters benefit from this by boosting their C.A. damage significantly.
End Game Whale Varuna grid
With the strong C.A. damage and multiattack completed Varuna grids provide, Vajra will be able to make the most out of her Hound of the Hunt, enabling her to compete with some of the top characters in Water. When combining this with 5* Feower’s Avarati, this buff can reach significant levels of duration, making Vajra a notable attacker even among competitors. Vajra will often need a high-end Optimus setup using Varuna X Europa with 3-4 Murgleis 2 Blue Spheres to properly function in this case due to the innate issues Vajra has with the normal modifier on her Loyalty Eternal clashing with the high amounts of normal modifier in a classic Varuna x Varuna setup.
Katana Proficiency Team
Vajra does take good advantage of Atma Katana Synergy, providing buffs and debuffs in areas that do not overlap with other katana users in the element, though the rare nature of her debuffs and her team buff being special means that overlapping coverage is rare in general. Yuel (Water) provides attack and defense down debuffs along with debuff success up, Echo, and multiattack buffs, which help cover many of the standard support aspects needed by Vajra. The last member of this lineup is Summer Narmaya, an attacker that can take advantage of the many buffs provided by the rest of the team. This includes the extra survivability from Vajra's buff and Yuel's debuffs to cover her glass-cannon nature.
4* Bonito Summon
Bonito is a great catch for Vajra to hunt down, as with its 4* uncap, it gains the ability to grant a full team charge boost that can even cover the doubled 200% charge bar of Vajra. This makes it so that it is easy to start the fight with a strong initial burst along with effortlessly gaining two stacks of Loyalty Eternal. With her double C.A. she can capitalize on this advantage compared to other characters who can only do so once with Bonito’s call.
|C.A. DMG Cap ★★★||Debuff Success ★★★||Critical Hit ★★★|
|Triple Attack ★★☆||Water Attack ★★☆||Charge Gain ★☆☆|
|Double Attack ★☆☆|
C.A. DMG Cap becomes very important when reaching the damage cap due to the frequency of turns where she spends performing a C.A.s. The Debuff Success rate of Vajra’s Petrify is fairly low, so she benefits greatly from this investment, though one can forgo this if they choose not to heavily rely on this skill. While Charge gain is a valuable choices, only one or two points are often needed in it due to the negligible value of the last one. The remaining choices help compensate for Vajra’s low sustained damage on normal attacks and improve her C.A. damage.
Ring Bonus Suggestions
|1st roll||2nd roll|
|C.A. DMG Cap||Triple Attack|
|Debuff Success||Double Attack|
Depending on your circumstances, you will have to choose between debuff success or C.A. cap up, as you won’t be able to get both on one ring. Debuff success up will be useful early game while C.A. up is valuable late game. C.A. damage is also viable if you find yourself unable to reach the C.A. damage cap. DATA is important to effectively utilize Double Strike while being a standard choice in general. Skill DMG cap is an alternative that can boost the burst damage from her nuke and Summon Gajarna, while Stamina and DA are general offensive buffs to help support her sustained damage.
